A gigantic statue of former Chinese leader Mao Zedong is being constructed at Zhushigang village. Though the building of the statue has been mostly funded by local businessmen, who poured 3 million yuan (£313,000) into the project, it has faced criticism.

Statue of Unity
The start of construction for the world’s tallest statue in India sparked a row over the vast sums of public money being spent on tributes to its past leaders and heroes.
The ‘Statue of Unity’ to honour Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel will be double the height of the Statue of Liberty in the USA. The total project cost is estimated to be Rs. 2989 crore.
